Middelburg Abbey Beer Festival

On Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31, 2025, the Bier in Zeeland Foundation is organizing the 10th Middelburg Abbey Beer Festival. The theme of this anniversary edition is 'Back to the Abbey'.

Bier in Zeeland, or 'BiZ' for short, has been promoting Zeeland's beer culture with its many volunteers and interested parties for many years. That culture is fascinating because beer makers can choose from endless variations with their recipes. The brewers participating in the festival are encouraged to play with that and present all kinds of beer flavors, from sour to sweet and from bitter to fruity, in their beer stands. Again, this takes place in the cloisters of the abbey. A unique place, because it is known that already in the twelfth century the monks brewed or had beer brewed in and around the abbey. Back then without the hops that are now grown in all kinds of aroma and bitterness variations, but with all kinds of other herbs.
