About Middelburg

Municipality of Middelburg

The municipality of Middelburg consists of the town of Middelburg and the villages of Arnemuiden, Nieuw- en Sint Joosland, Brigdamme, Sint Laurens and Kleverskerke. The town hall is located on Kanaalweg, a few hundred meters from the railway station. The old town hall on the Middelburg Markt formerly served as the town office. It now houses the University College Roosevelt.

On the municipality's website you will find all the information for citizens and entrepreneurs. For example, about building applications, municipal administration, waste, permits and the digital counter.

Opening hours city office

The city office and desks are open and accessible by phone on weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. On Thursdays, the civil affairs desks are open continuously from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Are stores open on Sundays?

All stores and supermarkets in Middelburg are allowed to open every Sunday. Every store decides for itself if they open. Always check the website of the stores so you won't be standing in front of a closed door.

Every 1st Sunday of the month the stores are definitely open vam 13:00 to 17:00.

Is there a Tourist Info point?

At the Tourist Info we are happy to inform you about everything Middelburg has to offer. We are at your service with tips and information for a successful stay in Middelburg. In our inspiration table you will find changing small exhibitions of local (cultural) attractions.

Public transportation

Can I take the train to Middelburg?

With public transportation it is easy to travel to and from Middelburg. Middelburg Station is a few minutes walk from the center. Every hour there are 4 trains: 2 intercity trains to Vlissingen and 2 intercity trains to Roosendaal.

Parking

Is it paid parking in Middelburg?

Paid parking for visitors applies Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. At parking lot Het Groene Woud there is paid parking on Thursday and Friday until 21.00 hours. In the parking garages you pay a lower hourly rate than on the street at the parking meter.

What does parking cost?

Zone 1 & 2: €3 per hour

The pay machines indicate the zone, maximum parking duration and parking rates. The rates in the parking garages and at other parking lots may differ from the zone rates.

Day pass

You can buy a day pass for €15 for the following parking lots:

  • Hof van Tange
  • Loskade
  • Molenwater

Where and when can I park for free?

On Sundays and national holidays, you can park for free in Middelburg. This also applies to the parking garages. You may only park your car in the parking spaces. You may not park in spaces reserved for residents with parking permits (permit holders).

Free parking Oude Veerseweg

Parking is free in the Oude Veerseweg parking lot. Downtown is a 5 to 10 minute walk.

Signs around downtown point the way to parking lots and parking garages. For locations, also see the parking map downtown

What parking garages/grounds are there?

In the inner city of Middelburg you park in the parking spaces. You can find these at the parking meters, in the parking garages and in the parking lots. Around the city center the parking guidance system indicates the route to the various parking lots and parking garages.

Parkeergarage Geere, unlimited parking. Hourly rate € 2,30.

Parkeergarage Achter de Houttuinen, unlimited parking. Hourly rate € 2,30.
Parkeergarage Kanaalweg, unlimited parking. Hourly rate € 2,30.

What is license plate parking?

Inhabitants and visitors of Middelburg can enter a license plate number at the parking meter, indicate the desired parking time and pay by debit or credit card.

The system records the payment at a central location. No more going back to the car to place the parking ticket behind the windshield.

Where can I park for the disabled?

With the disabled parking permit, you can park in the general disabled parking spaces.

Can I use call parking?

Paid parking can easily be done with your cell phone. This is often cheaper because you then only pay for the actual parking time. This does not apply to the Het Groene Woud parking lot.

Can I park with a parking disc?

In blue zones, you may park with your parking disc for up to 2 hours Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The blue zones are located just outside the downtown area. The blue zones can be found just outside the city center.

Picking up and dropping off train passengers

Train passengers pick up or drop off at the following places:

The kiss and ride zone at the front of the station on Kanaalweg
Q-park P + R Segeerssingel at the rear of the station, first fifteen minutes is free for picking up and dropping off train passengers
Park Segeerssingel parking lot at the rear of the station. Parking in the Segeerssingel parking lot is free.

Can I park at a public charging station?

You may park at a charging station only if your car is charging. Your car must be attached to the charging station with a cable. Paid parking and parking disc rules also apply when charging.

What is the P-route?

On the access roads to the city center there are signs indicating the P-route. This route quickly directs you to the various parking lots and garages.

Is it better to park in a parking garage?

We recommend parking your car in a parking garage when visiting Middelburg. The parking garages are easily accessible via the P-route and are located close to the center. The parking garages are open all year round, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. In the parking garages, paid parking is in effect Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Public restrooms

Where are there public restrooms?

Walking Church/New Church: the toilets in the church are publicly accessible at times when the church is open, between Easter and the end of October. Paid: €0.50
Sister Square: these toilets are not free, but are kept neatly clean and monitored all day. The toilets are only open during the day, during shopping hours. Ideal to combine with the guarded bicycle parking there. Paid: €1,-
Damplein: the public toilet is in the parking lot and is managed by Gemeente Middelburg. Paid.
ZB Library of Zeeland: the toilets can be found on all floors of the library. Free.
Parking garages of Municipality of Middelburg, at Kousteensedijk 3 and Kalverstraat 4: partly free, partly paid. 
Parking lot Hof van Tange: paid.

Bikes

Where are there guarded bike racks?

Service Center Sister Square

Here you can park your bike GRATIS, charge your e-bike and rent bikes. You can also tap water, use the restroom and rent a locker.

 

NS station

You will find guarded bike racks at the station and often park for free for the first 24 hours. Are you parking for more than 24 hours? Then pay afterwards with Stallen op rekening (on account) or with your debit card on the spot.

Where can I park my bike for free with security?

At the Zusterplein (in the city center) you can park your bike for free at the guarded bike park.
