In Middelburg there is an awful lot to do, and the historic city center means you really can't skip this Zeeland highlight for a city break. Our tips for a day (and night) away:

10:00 a.m.: Breakfast at Luuks

Luuks is a small artisanal bakery where bread is still baked like it used to be. There is also a delicious selection of homemade pastries. You can go there for breakfast or brunch with coffee, tea or other drink in the bakery. Or choose a Breakfast DeLuuks that includes a fresh juice, yogurt with granola and a pie of your choice.

11:00 a.m.: Visit the Reigerstraat and look around Huis van Bloemen

The Reigerstraat is perhaps the most photographed street in Middelburg. Every year the entrepreneurs of the street pack out creative decorations. A perfect place for a family photo! Plus, it gives you an iconic Middelburg view: the Lange Jan Abbey tower. And while you're there, take a look around the corner at the flower store Huis van Bloemen on the Koorkerkhof. They have a contemporary store with a wide assortment of fresh daily special flowers, plants, silk flowers, pottery, glass and home accessories.

12.30 p.m.: Lunch at Brasserie de Drvkkery

The Brasserie of bookstore de Drvkkery on the Markt has been one of Middelburg's coziest spots for years. A meeting place in a world of books, music, art and relaxation. An ideal place for a delicious homemade lunch. The specialty menu changes about four times a year, with the chefs choosing dishes to match the seasonal harvest ingredients sourcing locally as much as possible.

15.00: Hugging cows at Schellach Cheese Farm

Children won't be bored for a moment at family-owned Schellach Cheese Farm, where the cows are kept in a largely automated barn. Follow the white footsteps on the ground to get to the stalls and watch the dairy cows from the visitor platform. At various places you will find QR codes, with which you can learn more about the way of working on the farm.

18.00 p.m.: Dine at Vert

At restaurant VERT on Vlasmarkt, vegetables play the leading role. It is located in the national monument 'den Swarten Gespleten Arent'. In four courses they serve nine changing delicious dishes to share, and can be supplemented with extra dishes.
