The Hans Lipperhey Museum shows how it was that the telescope was invented in Middelburg by Hans Lipperhey in 1608. There is also special attention to the history of astronomy and the role of Zeeland in it. Eyewear maker Hans Lipperhey's workshop has been recreated and they show how lenses were ground in the 17th century. The museum also houses a fine collection of antique telescopes. The oldest dates from the late 17th century. In addition to scopes from observatory Philippus Lansbergen, the collection of scopes consists of loan copies from Peter Louwman, Harold Haverkorn, Pieter Vijn foundation and Rijk-Jan Koppejan.
