Middelburg Painting
Wieteke Hendrikx (b. 1978) is the artist behind the name Middelburg Schilderkunst. She came up with this name in 2017 after she resumed painting after a halt of a few years.
In 2000, after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tilburg, Wieteke then continued experimenting and exhibiting with different painting styles, as well as spatial mosaic work. She has also created illustrations for a few children's books.
After more than 3 years of not touching a brush, she began to paint the beautiful spots of her beloved hometown of Middelburg in 2016 in miniature. To bring out her new and now very own painting style, she came up with the appropriate name 'Middelburg Painting'. Characteristic for her style are recognizability, playfulness and power of color.
As Wieteke herself also lives in a picturesque neighborhood, she gladly opens the door of the monumental building 'Den Silvere Helm', to give you a look in her cozy living studio on the first floor.
By the way, the name Middelburg Schilderkunst can be interpreted broadly. Not only as paintings of the city of Middelburg, but also as painting from Middelburg. Thus other beautiful places of Zeeland are also covered. Moreover, in addition to city scenes, Wieteke also makes paintings of natural atmospheres, such as of the Bolwerk in Middelburg and the Manteling on Walcheren.
