Gasthuis Church

The church on Lange Delft was originally built in 1493 as a chapel belonging to the Gasthuis (hospital), hence the name Gasthuiskerk. The patron saint of the Gasthuis was Mary the mother of Jesus. The carvings on the needle on the front door of the church also refer to this.

For a long time the church was almost invisible from the street because there were stores and residential houses on the front of the church and on the side were proveniers houses (literally lean-to houses) built against the church. On the outside walls the traces of this extension are still clearly recognizable.

Currently it is a Christian Reformed church and church services are held there regularly.
