Gallery De Vier Gemeten
Since July 1996, gallery/art gallery 'De Vier Gemeten' has been located in the old city center of Middelburg. Initially in the narrowest building in this city, in a former gatehouse that gave access to four measured ground. Since December 2000 in a more spacious 18th -century building, at No. 50 next to the mensa of University College Roosevelt (Common House Elliott), on Lange Noordstraat.
Owner, former marine pilot and art collector Joost Jan (J.J.) Bakker (Eindhoven,1945) has set his heart not only on the sea, but since the 1970s also on the Zeeland, Flemish and Dutch painters who lived and worked on Walcheren in the years 1900-1960 or came there regularly. In particular, the island of Walcheren, the garden of Zeeland, was a haven for visual artists. Especially that first half of the 20th century has the great interest of Joost Bakker. Although ... the present also has his interest, given the annual exhibitions of contemporary Zeeland visual artists in his gallery.
For example, the well-known children's book writer/illustrator Wim Hofman (1941) and the Middelburg-New Yorker the fine painter Leendert van der Pool (1945) are represented in his gallery.
