Toos van Holstein (1949) has been exhibiting her art for many years in galleries in various countries . That her qualities are fully appreciated is evidenced by her appointment as Brilliant Artist of the Netherlands 2016 and the fact that she again joins the 25 most popular artists of our country in the election of Artist of the Year 2023.
Of Toos's art you can say that it shows an always recognizable world that in reality yet again does not exist. A world in which the viewer can dream away without being told what to see in it. That is why she calls that world 'figurative'.
Though every work of art by Toos van Holstein incorporates her own ideas, her own experiences, her own emotions. Triggered by ancient or contemporary literature, by her immediate environment or by her travels within Europe or further continents. Because of this Toos has created a unique oeuvre with a world all her own.
Nearly no art technique is foreign to her in this regard. Although her oil paintings occupy an important place, Toos has also made series of stone prints. But she also enjoys making watercolors and building sculptures out of wax and natural materials. Which are then subsequently cast in bronze, aluminum or plastic. In addition, she is one of the very few artists who combines digital images with oil paint on the sheet material alu-dibond. Toos has also been working with ceramics for several years now.
