Seize the day All Souls | Dutch Bach Society
Please remember to die, but seize the day. A hopeful All Souls' Day program with music by predecessors and relatives of Bach.
For centuries in Western Christian tradition, Nov. 2 has been the day of remembrance for the departed, under the title All Souls' Day. The Bach Society commemorates each year with Bach. This year we listen to Bach's predecessors' and relatives' take on All Souls' Day. Harpsichordist and organist Bart Naessens delves into the German Baroque with starring roles for music by Johann Michaël Bach, Johann Christoph Bach and Heinrich Schütz. Music that rests in the transience of man - memento mori, remember to die - but also brings a positive note: carpe diem. If dying is inevitable, seize the day.
