The Peacemakers in Zeeland
80 years of Peace and Freedom in Zeeland and the Netherlands: a special moment to commemorate and celebrate extensively. Vocal Ensemble Cantare, the Zeeland Concert Choir and Holland Symphony Orchestra perform The Peacemakers (2011) by Karl Jenkins conducted by conductor Pim Overduin. This composition will have its premiere in Zeeland and may even be the first complete performance in the Netherlands.
In The Peacemakers, Jenkins uses the words of some of the world's greats of peace and freedom: Anne Frank, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Francis of Assisi. Furthermore, Jenkins uses anonymous and traditional liturgical texts. He mixes languages and musical styles from different cultures by using special ethnic instruments. This creates a multicultural sound that emphasizes the origins of different text quotations and the connection of cultures.
The Peacemakers is once again an impressive work in form and content that makes young and old alike aware of how fragile and precious peace is.
Despite the call of many for peace, inclusion and tolerance, world peace seems to be far away.
Powerful words are needed, set to beautiful music to convince everyone of a peaceful life together. Music connects, a musical call for peace.
