In observance of International Women's Day, Sandra van der Meulen is temporarily transforming her studio into Galerie Sanny Boen, as a tribute to her mother and all the women who were forced to leave their homeland for various reasons.

The gallery will feature work by three women artists:

Pet Holman is a graphic designer, photographer and filmmaker. In her films, she reveals her Indian background and identity, sharing information about the subject and capturing it in images. Her photo project for International Women's Day features impressive portraits of women celebrating their own identity, the diversity and power of femininity in all its manifestations.

Dewi van der Meulen is an illustrator. Illustrations by her regularly appear in the NRC. Colorful and quirky, she offers her visual perspective on current events and background to the newspaper's articles. The same sharp vision can be found in her free work. Precise in her own recognizable style, she creates modern female figures that exude both, strength, vulnerability and femininity.

Sandra van der Meulen is a visual artist. Using a mixed technique, she deals primarily with abstract concepts. One of the recurring topics is how perception (mis)forms our view of the world. Series such as "Lost-in-translation" and "Filtered Stories" explore this idea. Art is also about storytelling. Sandra van der Meulen likes to tell you how the story of her mother can be found in her work.

'Women and art' is the umbrella title under which 10 art institutions on Walcheren and De Bevelanden will devote attention to International Women's Day in the weekend of March 8.
With various public activities, short and longer-term exhibitions, attention is drawn to equal opportunities and recognition for women in the art world and beyond. 'Galerie Sanny Boen' is part of this art route.
