What does freedom mean?

On Tuesday, April 15, Arjan Erkel will give an inspiring lecture in the context of 80 years of freedom. This lecture will take place in the Middelburg Town Hall on the Markt and will start at 7:30 pm. This Freedom Lecture is organized by the Municipality of Middelburg, the Province of Zeeland and the Liberation Festival Zeeland in the context of 80 years of freedom.

Arjan Erkel became an unwanted well-known Dutchman when he was kidnapped in 2002 in Dagestan while working for Doctors Without Borders. It would be 607 days until he was released on April 11, 2004. Nowadays, we also know Erkel as an author, entrepreneur, politician and speaker. On April 15, he is coming to Middelburg to tell us what freedom means to us, based on his kidnapping story and the story of his life after the kidnapping. The focus of his story is mainly on the (positive) lessons he learned from his violent experience, and how he applies them in his daily life to this day.
