The English Church dedicated to Sea and Soul - Exhibition Carien Borst

On Saturday, Feb. 1 and Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, the Middelburg Art and Culture Route (KCRM) will festively open the new year with the theme "Guests." This opening weekend promises to be a unique experience, with studio and gallery owners of the route each inviting a guest exhibitor. Together they will present a diverse range of artworks in an inspiring dialogue between styles, techniques and perspectives.

From artists from Zeeland to guests from outside the province, this weekend offers a double portion of art to enjoy. The wide variety of works and the unique combinations make a visit to the route extra special. Each location shows how hospitality and art reinforce each other, with special attention this time to the English Church.

This late Gothic chapel in the center of Middelburg, will be the focus of Carien Borst's fascinating paintings during the month of February 2025, with her solo exhibition "Sea and Soul." This exhibition, which opens Feb. 1, brings together many new works by the artist around the themes of the sea, coastlines and human portraits.

Carien Borst, inspired by the water, the sea and the ocean, translates her experiences of walking, swimming and surfing at the beach into unique paintings. Her mixed-media works literally connect land and sea through the use of sand and other natural elements. In addition to the coasts of Zeeland, the rugged coastlines of the Scottish islands with their deep blues and greens are an important source of inspiration.

With "Sea and Soul," Carien Borst invites the visitor to contemplate the power and beauty of nature, as well as the depths of human existence. Her paintings, built up in layers, are a reflection of insights and vistas she gains on the road and in her studio in 's-Heer Arendskerke.
