Christmas workshop "Christmas in the Middle Ages"

Experience an enchanting Christmas experience in Middelburg's historic late Gothic chapel! Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to a special day of creativity and music inspired by the colorful Middle Ages. This Christmas workshop introduces children to medieval Christmas traditions and art techniques. They discover how people celebrated Christmas in the late Middle Ages, before the modern Christmas tree existed, and learn to make their own Christmas decorations using techniques and materials from that time. The emphasis is on creativity, cultural history, and experiencing a piece of history.

There is also a focus on learning to sing some original medieval Christmas carols under the guidance of vocal pedagogue Mariká van der Meer with accompaniment by Ireen Thomas (Lute). By singing together, they will discover the sounds of music.

What we will do:

• Drawing and Painting: Under the guidance of professional artists, children will create beautiful Christmas scenes like in the time of Mary of Burgundy. Be inspired by the rich history and create your own masterpiece!
• Music Workshop: Learn to sing original medieval Christmas carols with Mariká van der Meer with accompaniment by Ireen Thomas (Lute).
• Christmas Card Making: Create original Christmas cards with medieval designs and calligraphy. Send your own creations to family and friends and share the magic of the Middle Ages!

Concert & Exhibition

From 4:00 p.m., parents (Participation cost per child €10. Parents/Grandparents free admission after 4:00 p.m.) are welcome to attend the finale of this magical event. Children present their creations in a beautiful exhibition.

Then the children sing in choir, accompanied by Mariká van der Meer and with accompaniment by Ireen Thomas (Lute), original medieval carols. An unforgettable concert you don't want to miss!
