Aart Bergwerff & Wishful Singing present Canto Ostinato Immersive

After a series of concerts, Canto Ostinato Immersive returns by popular demand for a new tour. The timeless beauty of Simeon ten Holt's masterpiece Canto Ostinato takes on another dimension in Canto Ostinato Immersive. In this arrangement, the piano is replaced by the organ, played by organist Aart Bergwerff, along with the voices of the vocal ensemble Wishful Singing. It offers an experience that invites introspection and stillness.

The piece Canto Ostinato by composer Simeon ten Holt is all about timelessness. "If the concept of 'time' disappears and we repeat patterns, only space remains," Bergwerff explains. "That space can be personal space, for your own thoughts and feelings. But perhaps also space for your neighbor, his way of life and his views. In the case of a performance on organ, that space is also literal: the immense church space in which the organ comes to sound."

The repeating patterns of the music are enhanced by the natural reverberation, which approaches a sense of timelessness. As the space fills with organ sounds, the singers contribute vocally with vowels without lyrics. Their voices blend with the organ sounds and move through the audience, adding an extra dimension to the performance.

The East Church provides a unique setting for this performance of Canto Ostinato. In addition to the presence of the organ, the size and acoustics of the church contribute to the experience of timelessness. The sounds of the organ and voices blend into the space, giving the music a meditative character and inviting reflection.

Some reclining space is available. Visitors may bring their own mat, blankets and pillow.

Wishful Singing consists of five professional, inspired singers with a unique sound, charisma and drive. The ensemble gives concerts in the Netherlands, Europe, the U.S. and Japan and sings everything that makes the heart beat faster: from abrasive dissonances and timeless folk melodies to funky harmonies, transcendental unison and rhythmic insanity.

Aart Bergwerff is a passionate and versatile musician. He loves exciting and adventurous programming. On the one hand, Aart has a passion for the classical repertoire, especially that of Johann Sebastian Bach. On the other hand, he likes to search for new ways and forms in organ culture. Thus he regularly collaborates with video artist Jaap Drupsteen, for example in a production around Bach's Passacaglia. Aart also created the performance 'East meets West' with the Turkish dervish dancer Kadir Sonuk, set to the music of Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt. Another example is the production Mi Corazón, in which organ and tango dance meet.
