Pablo Slenders immortalizes the pride of Middelburg in new cityscape
Last summer, artist Pablo Slenders received an invitation from Galerie Goeie Genade to explore Middelburg. Owners Heleen and Giliam welcomed him with open arms and even arranged a personal tour of the city with a former alderman. "From the first moment I felt welcome and inspired," Pablo says. "The stories about the history, the hidden courtyards and life in Middelburg brought the city to life in smells and colors."
This experience did not leave him. After days of wandering through the city, taking hundreds of photos and taking in the atmosphere, Pablo decided to translate these impressions into a cityscape. "The energy of Middelburg touched me deeply, and I wanted to capture that feeling in my work."
In 2024, Pablo made an artistic journey through Europe, visiting Porto, Sardinia and Antwerp, among other places, and incorporated it into his work. This gave his art a strong international character. Yet he realized that beauty is not necessarily found abroad. "Middelburg is a gem that many more people should be allowed to discover. This city breathes history, charm and character."
On March 2, Pablo's cityscape of Middelburg was unveiled as part of a group exhibition at Galerie Goeie Genade. The exhibition runs until April 20 and features, in addition to Pablo's work, art by Hans Deuss, Roos van der Meijden, Daphne Schrijver, Vanessa Schiavone and Ruth Korthof.
